Rome: St. Peter's Basilica adventure

Where the Vatican adventure did disappoint a bit, St. Peter's Basilica was amazing. Yes, still that guilt niggling because the place is so over the top, but wow, the place is so over the top you can't help but be impressed. The photos don't do it justice, but here goes . . .
This is Michelangelo's Pieta, an amazing sculpture he did when in in 20's. The photo doesn't come close to doing this justice - it's an absolutely stunning piece of work.

This is the aisle the Pope uses when he says mass here. Apparently so holy no one else is allowed to walk on it - whatever!
You can see here the scale of the place - absolutely huge! It was crowded with as many people as the Vatican museum, but it sure didn't feel like it.
I think this is a piece by Bernini, but not 100% sure. Lots of amazing art work throughout the basilica.
